In the United States, thousands of candidates aspire to build a successful career in the military. Why not? After all, choosing military as a profession offers a wide range of opportunities to advance one’s career. The journey begins with the ASVAB test.
The craze for getting a job in the military among aspirants can be gauged from the rise in the number of applicants on a yearly basis. Owing to this trend, the ASVAB has become competitive over the years. What is means for the current applicants is that they not only need to achieve more than the requisite scores to secure their career in the military.
Interestingly, there is no hard-and-fast rule to crack the test. It is just like any other normal test and a systematic preparation is the key to get the anticipated results in it.
There are two versions of the test: the pencil-and-paper version and the computer version. Both the versions have their own share of merits and demerits. Speaking of the demerits of the pencil-and-paper version, it necessitates a candidate to figure out the duration to answer a question on their own. If you are one of the applicants, it is strongly recommended that you should select a version after analyzing your strengths and weaknesses.
While the pencil-and-paper version allows you to skip the difficult questions and come back to them later on, the CAT-ASVAB or the computer variant of the ASVAB does not provide for this feature. Also, the latter is time-bound i.e. it has a fixed duration and an aspirant is required to choose the right answer before the countdown becomes zero.
One common feature between the two versions is that both the variants involve multiple choice based questions. An applicant is required to choose the right answer out of the given set of answers.
Also, the test involves a number of subtests. These include Arithmetic Reasoning, General Science, Paragraph Comprehension, Word Knowledge, Electronics Information, Mechanical Comprehension. Auto & Shop Information, and so on. It is strongly recommended that a candidate should practice as far as possible to gain an understanding of the time required to answer each of the subtests.
